Job summary

Trade Assist is seeking Welders for projects around the Gisborne region with competitive rates for experienced applicants. You will read blueprints, prepare stock, cut and weld metal, and finish products to a high standard.

Requirements include 2+ years' relevant experience or NZQF level 5+, a full driver’s licence, and availability for night shifts, early mornings, and weekends. Pre-employment drug testing and MOJ clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' relevant work experience or NZQF level 5 qualifications or above.
  • Full driver’s license.
  • Availability for night shifts and weekends.
  • Professional, punctual and proactive approach with good communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to establish job requirements.
  • Prepare metal stock and select cutting methods.
  • Cut, form, weld and finish metal components using appropriate tools.
  • Check weld quality and finish surfaces; maintain shop cleanliness.

Trade Assist are looking for Welders for a variety of projects around the Gisborne region and are offering competitive rates for the right people with experience.

Responsibilities
  • Reading blueprints, drawings and specifications to establish job requirements
  • Choosing, cleaning and preparing metal stock
  • Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes with hand tools, flame-cutting torches and metal-cutting machines
  • Forming and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, as well as heating and hammering
  • Positioning and aligning parts for joining with hand tools and measuring instruments
  • Fusing metal sections using a range of welding techniques, along with bolting and riveting
  • Checking welds for bead width, penetration and accuracy
  • Finishing products through cleaning, polishing, filing and treatment in acidic solutions
  • Smoothing and cleaning welds by filing, chiselling and grinding
  • Ordering and collecting the required materials from suppliers when needed
  • Carrying out tasks outside the workshop when required

Requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years' relevant work experience, or a NZQF level 5 qualifications or above
  • A full driver's licence
  • Availability to work night shifts and early-morning starts (from 6am) when required
  • Availability to work weekends when required
  • A professional, punctual, motivated and proactive approach, with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills (including English)
  • Pre-employment drug test required
  • Clean MOJ required
  • Flexibility to work in nearby regions and complete assignments as required
