Job summary

Waimakariri District Council in Rangiora is seeking a Water & Wastewater Manager to lead the strategic management and delivery of district water supply and wastewater services. This pivotal leadership role influences long-term infrastructure planning, regulatory compliance, and sustainable outcomes for communities and the environment.

You will oversee planning, operation, maintenance and development of assets, develop water services strategies, manage budgets, and lead a multidisciplinary team

Qualifications

• Degree in civil engineering or related engineering or science degree; CPEng status preferred.
• Senior-level experience in water, wastewater, utilities or infrastructure management.
• Expertise in asset management, strategic planning, and infrastructure investment.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and complex programmes.
• Experience managing budgets, stakeholders and service delivery outcomes.
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
• Experience in local government or regulated environments will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, reliable water and wastewater services.
• Lead strategic asset management and long-term infrastructure planning.
• Develop and implement water services strategies, asset management plans and investment programmes.
• Oversee capital works programmes and support delivery of infrastructure projects.
• Lead and develop a team of technical specialists.
• Drive compliance with drinking water standards, resource consents, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage budgets, development contributions, and financial planning.
• Support growth planning, climate resilience initiatives, and sustainable service delivery.
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
