Job summary

Queenstown Lakes District Council invites an energetic team player to join our Venue Support Crew at the Queenstown Events Centre. This permanent full-time role supports our Sport & Recreation venues with safety, customer service and event setup.

You’ll bring strong customer service, reliability and communication skills, and be willing to assist across teams, perform venue setups, maintenance tasks and health & Safety checks. A current first aid certificate and NZ driver’s license are desirable.

Qualifications

  • Background in customer service, hospitality, retail, grounds or caretaking.
  • NCEA Level 3 in Sports and Recreation or relevant trade is desirable.
  • First aid certificate, fire warden and staff safety training are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • As a Venue Support Crew member, maintain safety and security for all users and visitors.
  • Carry out room/court setups based on daily event bookings and activities, ensure cleanliness of Queenstown Events Centre.
  • Open/close facilities, monitor hazards and report appropriately.
  • Support other teams during busy periods and attend Health & Safety trainings.

We’re looking for an energetic team player to step into our Venue Support Crew role, supporting our Sport & Recreation in a permanent full-time position based at the Queenstown Events Centre.

What you'll be doing / He aha te mahi

As a Venue Support Crew member, you will work closely with the Venue Support Supervisor to maintain the safety and security of all users and visitors to the Queenstown Events Centre and other Sport and Recreation venues.

This role will involve:

  • Customer service: Ensuring high-quality customer service standards are maintained (in person and via phone), demonstrating excellent time management and reliability, understanding cultural differences, and providing excellent service to all customers.
  • Maintenance & venue support: Assisting with maintenance identification and repairs, carrying out room/court setups based on the daily event bookings and activities, ensuring over all cleanliness of QEC and overseeing the removal and disposal of rubbish and litter from surrounding areas including car parks and sports fields.
  • Venue management: Maintaining a safe environment by providing a regular presence in the car park and external areas, opening and closing for the whole facility , identify hazards and record / report appropriately.
  • Adhoc: Supporting other teams during busy periods, cover breaks in various areas such as Pool, Customer Service, Venues, and Fitness, attending training, job-related meetings, Health & Safety meetings, carrying out evacuation training and Health & Safety inductions for new starters and performing building and equipment checks as per Health and Safety requirements.
What you’ll bring to the role / Ko wai to Pukeka

You’ll be self-motivated and will work well within our positive and energetic team environment. You’ll be able to demonstrate outstanding customer service skills, be committed to maintaining a professional-looking venue and have excellent communication skills. If you have a background in customer service, hospitality, retail, grounds or caretaking and enjoy hands-on tasks, then this role may be for you.

To best succeed in this role, you’ll have:

  • A passion for sports, health and wellness.
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing role.
  • NCEA Level 3 in Sports and Recreation, or a relevant Trade is desirable but not essential.
  • A current first aid certificate, fire warden and staff safety training are desirable (we can assist you in gaining this).
  • A highly motivated, achievement-oriented and innovative approach.
  • A current and valid NZ driver's license.
