Job summary

Greymouth Franklin Smith Limited is seeking multiple experienced Excavator Operators with a good attitude and solid references to work on earthmoving projects. You will operate plant to excavate earth, ore and rock, move and load materials, and level surfaces on construction and civil works.

Requirements: NZ citizen or resident, at least 3 years full‑time excavator experience on commercial or civil projects, a valid class 2+ driver license, ability to pass police check and drug test, and

Responsibilities

• Prepare and position plant for operation
• Select and fit attachments (buckets, winches, scoops, blades, hammers)

• Monitor plant operation and adjust controls for safety and efficiency
• Raise/lower attachments using manual and hydraulic controls
• Work from drawings, markers and verbal instructions
• Service, lubricate, clean and refuel plant; perform minor repairs
• May operate other civil machines and perform manual labour
• Ensure safety and compliance with policies and legislation
• Relate to other duties as required by the role

We are looking for multiple experienced Excavator Operators who have a good attitude towards work and great references. You will be completing various earthmoving duties including operating plant to excavate earth, ore, and rock, break up pavement, road, rock, and obstructions, move and load earth, rock and debris, and level, smooth and compact surfaces in construction and other projects.

About you:

Successful candidates must be a NZ citizen or resident and have at least 3 years full-time excavator operator relevant work experience on commercial or civil projects.

Duties include:

• Preparing and positioning plant for operation.
• Selecting, fitting and removing attachments such as buckets, winches, loading scoops, shovel blades and rock breaking hammers.
• Operating controls to excavate, break, drill, level, compact, gouge out, move, load and spread earth, rock, rubble, soil and other materials.
• Monitoring operation of plant and adjusting controls to regulate pressure, speed and flow of operation, and ensuring safety of other workers.
• Raising, lowering and manipulating attachments using manual and hydraulic controls.
• Working from drawings, markers and verbal instructions
• Servicing, lubricating, cleaning and refueling plant and performing minor adjustments and repairs.
• May operate other civil machines/vehicles and perform manual labouring
• Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in compliance with Franklin Smith policies and relevant legislation.
• Other duties as reasonably required within the capability of the employee’s role may also be required from time to time.

The ideal candidate will also have:

• Been able to pass police check and drug test.
• A valid driver license, class 2 or higher .

About the role:

- Minimum 30 hours per week.

- Hourly wage ranging from $30.00 - $35.00.

- Permanent role – Monday to Friday, with extra shifts available on weekends.

- As part of your employment, you may be required to travel to a different region for a different project, including, Auckland, Manawatū-Whanganui, Marlborough, Waikato, Wellington, Otago, Nelson, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Northland, West Coast, Bay of Plenty, Canterbury, Gisborne, Southland.

- You will be given reasonable notice if you are required to relocate to another region. Franklin Smith will cover transportation and accommodation expenses related to the relocation.
