Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Australia is seeking an experienced Backstage and platform engineering specialist to design, develop, and extend our internal Developer Portal, templates, and golden paths that empower engineering teams.

You will work with Kubernetes, Docker, Java Spring Boot, and modern CI/CD pipelines to deliver scalable, secure automation across build, test, deploy and monitoring, while contributing to a culture of continuous learning and sustainability in Australia.

Qualifications

• Backstage implementation, customization, and plugin development.
• Experience with Developer Portals / Internal Developer Platforms.
• Git workflows (branching, pull requests, merge strategies).
• Maven and polyglot build systems.
• Kafka or event streaming platforms.
• Service management tools (e.g., JSM).
• Kubernetes and container orchestration.
• Infrastructure automation and pipeline design.
• Code quality/security tools (e.g., Snyk).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance Backstage Developer Portal
• Build and maintain software templates (Scaffolder) and golden paths
• Develop custom Backstage plugins (frontend and backend using TypeScript)
• Manage Backstage Catalog including entities, systems, ownership, and metadata governance
• Integrate Backstage with SCM, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, security, and monitoring tools
• Build reusable CI/CD templates and pipeline-as-code frameworks
• Enable end-to-end automation across build, test, deploy, and monitoring processes
• Implement RBAC, secrets management, and secure pipelines
• Develop backend services using Java (Spring Boot, Microservices architecture)
• Design and manage API integrations across platform services
• Work with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
