Job summary

Johns Lyng Group is seeking a practical, reliable Makesafe Technician to join the Wellington team. You will attend makesafe sites, perform temporary repairs to secure homes and businesses, and support clients through stressful situations.

This role offers a standard Monday-Friday schedule with paid overtime for after-hours and weekend callouts, along with modern equipment and clear pathways into supervisory roles.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or working towards one.
• Current NZ driver’s licence.
• Own basic hand tools and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Attend makesafe sites across Wellington on short notice.
• Carry out permanent and temporary repairs to protect properties.
• Provide reassurance to clients during stressful situations.
• Liaise with staff, insurers, and councils as required.
• Travel across the Wellington region to service calls.

The Role:

We're looking for a practical, reliable builder to join our team as a Makesafe Technician. In this role, you'll attend makesafe sites across Wellington, carrying out temporary building repairs to secure homes and businesses after damage. It's a hands-on, problem-solving position where no two days look the same, and you'll be the reassuring face clients meet during stressful situations.

This is a standard Monday-Friday role, but you'll also have the opportunity to earn significant paid overtime for after-hours and weekend callouts - perfect for someone who wants stable hours with the option to boost their income. Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Attend service calls with short notice
• Provide peace of mind to clients in stressful situations
• Conduct permanent & temporary repairs to homes & businesses
• Ensure standard of workmanship is above & beyond industry expectations
• Build relationships with subcontractors & clients
• Liaise with staff, insurance companies & councils
• Communicate details of repairs & any issues to head office
• Ensure all work conforms to legislative & contractual OHS requirements
• Travel across the Wellington region

Key Selection Criteria

• Working towards a Trade qualification is essential, LBP, licensed, qualified builder is ideal but not essential.
• Experience on Insurance construction projects ideal, however not essential
• Positive, honest & pro-active attitude
• Current & valid motor vehicle licence
• Requirement to supply own basic hand tools, power tools & battery
