Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Preparing and cooking the restaurant's authentic Thai dishes, including curries, soups, stir-fries, entrees and salads.
• Ensuring all dishes meet taste, quality and presentation standards.
• Managing daily kitchen operations, including preparation and food storage.
• Keeping the kitchen compliant with hygiene rules and health and food safety regulations.
• Assisting with menu planning.
• Assisting with stock management and portion control.
• Supervising and training junior kitchen staff.

Job description

An established Thai restaurant in Hastings, New Zealand, needs a Thai Chef to take a permanent, full-time place on its kitchen team, working 30 hours a week as a minimum. The employer wants someone who understands authentic Thai cooking in depth and who turns out every plate at an equally high level, from first prep to final presentation.

The menu rests on traditional recipes, quality ingredients and fresh herbs and spices used in proportion, and the restaurant has earned a loyal local following with it. As for sponsorship, the employer is an Accredited Employer under New Zealand's Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme.

• Preparing and cooking the restaurant's authentic Thai dishes, among them curries, soups, stir-fries, entrees and salads
• Making sure all dishes meet the restaurant's standards of taste, quality and presentation
• Managing the daily operation of the kitchen, including preparation and storage of food

• Either a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience as a Thai Chef or a relevant qualification in commercial cookery

• Ability to work efficiently within a busy kitchen
