Job summary

Qualifications

  • EST Registration (Electrical Service Technician) is required in New Zealand.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct RFI and EMC testing, partnering with design engineers during R&D to meet emission standards.
  • Perform thermal, material, and component testing per testing coordinator schedules.
  • Ensure Equipment Under Test is assembled correctly and calibrated.
  • Maintain accurate test records and draft clear reports.
  • Investigate discrepancies, analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Operate testing instruments safely; assist with maintenance and calibration schedules.
  • Identify workflow improvements while ensuring quality standards compliance.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and communicate safety considerations.
  • Assist in installation, integration, and calibration of new testing systems.
  • Assemble hardware prototypes from schematics with engineers.

Stanbury Electrical Engineering – Hei Hei, South Island

As a Testing Technician, you will lead RFI/compliance efforts while supporting general testing functions. This specialized position works closely with design engineers throughout the R&D phase and beyond, conducting Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing to ensure products meet regulatory emission standards prior to final certification.

Key responsibilities
  • Conduct Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing, partnering with design engineers during the R&D phase to proactively identify potential interference risks and ensure products meet regulatory emission standards
  • Conduct thermal, material, and component testing according to established schedules by the testing coordinator, working in direct partnership with design engineers to understand testing specifications and ensure all procedures align with project requirements
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure Equipment Under Test (EUT) is assembled correctly according to design intent and verify that testing equipment is adequate and calibrated for specific project requirements
  • Maintain accurate and systematic records of all test results, practice disciplined note-taking, and draft clear test reports that demonstrate understanding of the test's purpose
  • Investigate, diagnose, and flag discrepancies encountered during testing immediately, engaging proactively with design engineers to analyze root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Operate testing instruments and tools safely and work with the testing coordinator to define maintenance schedules and calibration standards
  • Continuously partner with testing coordinator and design engineers to identify opportunities for optimizing testing workflows and propose improvements while ensuring full compliance with quality standards
  • Strictly adhere to safety protocols and regulations during all activities and maintain open communication regarding safety considerations
  • Support the installation, integration, and calibration of new testing systems, validating that equipment installations meet required performance standards
  • Assemble hardware prototypes of electrical and electronic circuits by accurately translating schematics into physical assemblies in constant coordination with design engineers
About you
  • Highly proficient in computer literacy
  • Currently hold a Electrical Service Technician (EST) Registration in New Zealand
  • Experience with thermal, material, and component testing
  • Proficiency in operating testing instruments including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialised tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and systematic documentation
  • Ability to draft clear, simple test reports and communicate findings effectively
  • Troubleshooting and interference analysis skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with design engineers and testing coordinators
  • Commitment to safety protocols and regulations
