Job summary

Taranaki District Health Board is seeking a Psychologist to conduct neurodevelopmental assessments for tamariki and rangatahi within CAMHS. The role supports families as they understand strengths and needs, in an integrated care model with access to digital psychometric tests.

The successful applicant will hold a current Practising Certificate, be based in New Plymouth with travel to South Taranaki as required, and contribute to a multidisciplinary team while aligning with Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Qualifications

  • Current Practising Certificate as a Psychologist.
  • Based in New Plymouth with travel to South Taranaki as required.
  • Passion for Mental Health and Addictions; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with neurodevelopmental assessment.
  • Experience in Child & Adolescent Mental Health is preferred.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding the Treaty of Waitangi and culturally safe practice.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out neurodevelopmental assessments for tamariki and rangatahi (e.g., autism, ADHD, intellectual disability).
  • Support children and whanau through the assessment journey and explain findings clearly.
  • Collaborate with the CAMHS team, paediatricians and NGOs within an integrated care model.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities such as FASD assessment when required.

Psychologist CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Assessment

0.6 FTE (48 hours per fortnight)

About the Role

Our Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) team is currently looking for a skilled Psychologist, passionate to make a difference in the lives of children and young people experiencing mental health and behavioural difficulties. The role will primarily involve carrying out neurodevelopmental assessments for tamariki and rangatahi e.g. for Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Disability.

This role is vital to the mental health of our children and young people across Taranaki as you will be supporting them through their journey and helping their whānau and others in the community understand their strengths and needs.

This role will be working within our integrated model of care. There will be opportunities and support for professional development e.g. assessment of FASD if required. Access to the most up to date digital psychometric tests will be provided.

The team works with children and young people 4-18 years of age and has close links with the child development team, paediatricians and Non-Government Organisations.

About you

We are looking for:

Psychologist with current Practicing Certificate based in New Plymouth with travel to South Taranaki as required.

Passion for Mental Health & Addictions; exceptional interpersonal & communication skills.

Experience and confidence in neurodevelopmental assessment

Experience within specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Healthpreferred

Flexibility to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Understanding and application of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, with a culturally safe and appropriate approach to practice
