Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Taranaki CAMHS, is seeking a psychologist with a current Practising Certificate to undertake neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people in New Plymouth, with occasional travel to South Taranaki. The role is 0.6 FTE in a permanent position within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Psychologist with current Practising Certificate based in New Plymouth with travel to South Taranaki as required.
  • Passion for Mental Health & Addictions; exceptional interpersonal & communication skills.
  • Experience and confidence in neurodevelopmental assessment.
  • Experience within specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health preferred.
  • Flexibility to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Understanding and application of the Treaty of Waitangi principles, culturally safe practice.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out neurodevelopmental assessments for tamariki and rangatahi (4–18 years).
  • Support whānau and others to understand strengths and needs.
  • Work within an integrated model of care with close links to paediatric teams and NGOs.
  • Opportunities for professional development, including assessment of FASD if required.

About the Role

Our Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) team is currently looking for a skilled Psychologist, passionate to make a difference in the lives of children and young people experiencing mental health and behavioural difficulties. The role will primarily involve carrying out neurodevelopmental assessments for tamariki and rangatahi e.g. for Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Disability. This role is vital to the mental health of our children and young people across Taranaki as you will be supporting them through their journey and helping their whānau and others in the community understand their strengths and needs. This role will be working within our integrated model of care. There will be opportunities and support for professional development e.g. assessment of FASD if required. Access to the most up to date digital psychometric tests will be provided. About the Team/Service/ Location The team works with children and young people 4-18 years of age and has close links with the child development team, paediatricians and Non-Government Organisations. About you
