Qualifications

• Up-to-date knowledge of current research, treatments and guidelines.
• Experience liaising with agencies (schools, primary care, Oranga Tamariki).

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Child and Adolescent (iCAMHS) Psychiatrist to join our supportive Mental Health & Addictions Service (MHAS). As an iCAMHS Psychiatrist, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive psychiatric care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for our young patients experiencing mild to severe mental health disorders. Your work will directly contribute to improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and adolescents in our community.

You will work collaboratively within a skilled multidisciplinary team, contributing clinical leadership, guidance, and expertise across the full continuum of care. This includes participating in MDT meetings, case reviews, consultation-liaison, and supporting integrated care pathways with schools, hauora providers, paediatric services, and community agencies.

In this role, you will:

• Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments for infant, young children, and youth with serious mental health conditions up to aged 18 years in Marlborough Community.
• Develop and implement individualised treatment plans, utilising evidence-based practices.
• Collaborate with a supportive multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, mental health nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, and social workers.
• Provide consultation and support to families and caregivers.
• Have a passion for delivering high quality, evidence based, culturally responsive, and effective healthcare.

About the Team/Service/Location

Wairau's iCAMHS is a small, well-established, and highly collaborative team based within Health NZ, Nelson Marlborough's Mental Health & Addictions Service. The team supports tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau across the Marlborough region, delivering community-based and outpatient mental health care.

The service includes experienced mental health nurses, psychologists, social workers, an occupational therapist, and access to cultural support and peer expertise. The team works closely with Nelson-based colleagues, paediatric services, schools, and local NGOs to ensure seamless, wrap-around support for young people. You'll be joining a friendly, supportive, and progressive service committed to early intervention, holistic care, and continuous improvement.

About You

The ideal applicant will:

• Bring your experience and knowledge of attachment, the impact of adverse childhood events, developmental disorders, and childhood mental health disorders to contribute to advanced care of the population in the Marlborough region.
• Hold Fellowship or Membership of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent.
• Be eligible for an Annual Practicing Certificate and Vocational Registration of Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
• Have at least two years post-registration experience with iCAMHS inpatients or outpatients in clinical setting.
• Have up-to-date knowledge of current research, treatments, and guidelines relating to major mental health issues of children and youth.
• Have some experience in liaison / consultation with other agencies, e.g working with community services such as Oranga Tamariki, schools, GPs and local Maori networks, or internationally equivalent services.
• Strong commitment to patient-centered care and continuous professional development.
