Job summary

Ministry of Justice (New Zealand) is seeking a Test Engineer for a fixed-term role in Wellington CBD to contribute to Te Au Reka. You will improve automated testing practices, lead testing by teams and suppliers, and coordinate system, integration and acceptance testing within an Agile context.

The role emphasizes collaboration with BA, developers and stakeholders, risk-based testing, strong communication, and ongoing professional development in a large, public sector environment.

Qualifications

  • Proven test engineering experience in large and complex environments.
  • Experience implementing automated testing at unit, system, and/or acceptance levels within Agile teams.
  • Strong collaboration with business analysts, developers, and stakeholders to design testing solutions.
  • Experience applying risk-based testing and validating features with Product/Service managers.
  • The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience, with commitment to ongoing development.
  • Relevant industry, technical, and/or professional certifications.

In this role, you will:
  • Improve the use and availability of automated testing practices and tools across the Ministry
  • Lead testing activities delivered by team members and suppliers

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience
  • Proven test engineering experience in large and complex environments
  • Experience implementing automated testing at the unit, system, and/or acceptance testing levels, particularly within Agile delivery teams
  • Strong experience working collaboratively with business analysts, developers, and business stakeholders to design and execute effective testing solutions
  • Experience applying risk-based testing approaches and validating features with Product and/or Service Managers
  • The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline, or equivalent experience, supported by a commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Relevant industry, technical, and/or professional certifications
Desirable:
  • An understanding of the constitutional principles and legal processes that underpin New Zealand's justice system
  • Knowledge of All-of-Government ICT principles, practices, and service offerings

Utu ātā/Salary

The salary range for this role is between $88,455 and $120,357, based on skills and experience.
