Job summary

EyeSpy Neuro, a New Zealand medical technology start-up, seeks a recent Master’s or PhD graduate to join the R&D team. You will work on eye-tracking hardware, software and clinical data, testing and improving the platform, analyzing eye-movement data and ensuring robust performance.

You will collaborate with engineers, scientists and clinicians, exploring signal processing, algorithm development and potential publications in a small multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Interest in signal processing or sensor data.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse high-frequency eye-tracking signals and artifacts.
  • Develop quantitative methods for saccades, fixation and ocular motility.
  • Design software/hardware test protocols and automation.
  • Test new releases against requirements and report results.
  • Evaluate accuracy, reliability and reproducibility.
  • Identify bugs and coordinate with developers to resolve them.
  • Contribute to device verification, validation and regulatory docs.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and researchers for real-world evaluation.

EyeSpy Neuro is a New Zealand medical technology start-up developing next-generation neurological diagnostic systems using high-speed eye tracking, signal analysis and AI.

Our portable technology measures subtle abnormalities in eye movements to identify objective biomarkers of neurological dysfunction, with potential applications in concussion and a range of neurological and neuro-ophthalmic conditions.

We are a multidisciplinary team spanning medicine, neuroscience, engineering, software and data science, and are looking for an outstanding recent Master's or PhD graduate to join our R&D team.

The Role

This is a hands-on role working with our eye-tracking hardware, software and clinical data. You will work with our engineering, software and clinical teams to test and improve the platform, analyse eye-movement data and help ensure the system performs accurately and reliably.

Your work will include:
  • analysing high-frequency eye-tracking signals, including noise, artefact and measurement error
  • developing quantitative methods for assessing saccades, fixation, smooth pursuit and ocular motility
  • designing software and hardware test protocols and automated testing tools
  • testing new releases against technical and user requirements
  • evaluating accuracy, reliability and reproducibility
  • identifying bugs and failure modes and working with developers to resolve them
  • contributing to medical-device verification, validation, quality systems and regulatory documentation
  • working with clinicians and researchers to evaluate the technology in patients and real-world settings.

There may also be opportunities to contribute to signal processing, algorithm development, machine learning and research publications.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a recent Master's or PhD graduate in biomedical, electrical, electronic, mechatronic or computer engineering; computer science; software engineering; data science; machine learning; applied mathematics; physics; or a related discipline.

You should have:

  • strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • experience with Python, MATLAB or another scientific/programming language
  • an interest in signal processing, time-series or sensor data
  • a rigorous approach to testing and attention to detail
  • an interest in medical technology, neuroscience or physiological measurement
  • the ability to work independently within a small multidisciplinary team.

Experience in automated testing, signal processing, machine learning, electronics, hardware testing, Quality Management Systems or medical-device standards such as ISO 13485 is an advantage, but not essential.

Essential: To be considered, applicants must meet all of following criteria:
  • Have recently completed a Master's (NZQA Level 9) or PhD (Level 10) in science, technology, engineering, design or business.
  • Have submitted their thesis for marking or completed the course requirements for a taught Master's within the last 12 months.
  • Be either a New Zealand citizen OR have received their Master's or PhD from a New Zealand university or tertiary institution.
  • Be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
  • Not have previously worked in this industry as a paid employee in a role related to their area of study, unless that employment was temporary, part-time or at a tertiary organisation.
  • Not have previously worked for EyeSpy Neuro, unless this was a temporary role of less than three months or an R&D Experience Grant internship.

Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be eligible.
