Job description

EyeSpy Neuro is a New Zealand MedTech start-up developing neurological diagnostic systems using high-speed eye tracking, advanced analytics and AI.

We have established a large database combining high-resolution eye-movement recordings with clinical and demographic data across neurological diseases. We are seeking an outstanding recent Master’s or PhD graduate to help identify clinically meaningful biomarkers within these data.

The Role

This is a data-focused research role centred on analysis rather than data collection. Working with clinicians, neuroscientists and engineers, you will:

  • analyse complex clinical and eye-tracking datasets
  • apply logistic regression, multivariate modelling and other statistical methods
  • identify and validate potential neurological biomarkers
  • develop reproducible analyses using R, Python or equivalent
  • undertake high-quality literature reviews
  • translate statistical findings into clinically meaningful insights
  • prepare figures, abstracts and manuscripts for publication.

There may also be opportunities in machine learning, predictive modelling and diagnostic algorithm development.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a recent Master’s or PhD graduate in neuroscience, biomedical science, bioengineering, data science, biostatistics, epidemiology, computer science, applied mathematics or a related discipline.

You should have strong statistical and analytical skills, experience with complex datasets, proficiency in R, Python or equivalent, and knowledge of regression and multivariate methods. Strong scientific writing, intellectual curiosity, methodological rigour and attention to detail are important.

Experience with clinical data, neuroscience, eye tracking, machine learning or peer-reviewed publication is advantageous but not essential.

Essential:To be considered, applicants must meet all of following criteria:
  • Have recently completed a Master’s (NZQA Level 9) or PhD (Level 10) in science, technology, engineering, design or business.
  • Have submitted their thesis for marking or completed the course requirements for a taught Master’s within the last 12 months.
  • Be either a New Zealand citizen OR have received their Master’s or PhD from a New Zealand university or tertiary institution.
  • Be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
  • Not have previously worked in this industry as a paid employee in a role related to their area of study, unless that employment was temporary, part-time or at a tertiary organisation.
  • Not have previously worked for EyeSpy Neuro, unless this was a temporary role of less than three months or an R&D Experience Grant internship.

Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be eligible.

Employment

Salary: $60,000 p.a. for an eligible Master’s graduate or $70,000 p.a. for an eligible PhD graduate. There is potential for an exceptional candidate to transition into a longer-term role.

Why Join Us?

Join a multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of neuroscience, medicine, data science and technology, with opportunities for biomarker discovery, scientific publication and direct clinical impact.
