Archway Recruitment is assisting a Christchurch architectural practice to recruit a Technical Manager / Project Architect. This senior role centers on leading technical delivery, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring documentation quality across diverse commercial, residential and civic projects.

You will mentor younger architects while staying actively involved in project execution and regulation compliance, including NZ Building Code adherence and QA excellence.

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in Architecture.
  • Advanced Revit capability and BIM knowledge.
  • Proven NZ experience leading / delivering commercial projects and complex buildings.
  • Excellent understanding of QA procedures and technical review processes.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring and team development capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical delivery of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Oversee QA processes and documentation standards across project teams.
  • Produce and review high-quality Revit documentation.
  • Manage consultant coordination and multidisciplinary project delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Architects, Graduates and Technicians.
  • Support project planning, programme management and delivery outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with NZ Building Code and relevant standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement of systems, processes and documentation quality.

The Role

This is a key technical leadership position for an experienced Technical Manager / Project Architect who enjoys being at the centre of project delivery and technical excellent.

You will lead the technical delivery of projects from concept through to completion, providing guidance and support to project teams while ensuring the highest standards of documentation, coordination and quality assurance are achieved.

Working across a broad range of projects including commercial, residential, multi-unit residential, industrial, retail, civic and community developments, you will be responsible for driving technical excellence throughout the practice.

This role combines hands‑on project involvement with leadership responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring others while remaining actively involved in project delivery.

Key responsibilities
  • Leading the technical delivery of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Overseeing QA processes and documentation standards across project teams
  • Producing and reviewing high-quality Revit documentation
  • Managing consultant coordination and multidisciplinary project delivery
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to Architects, Graduates and Technicians

Role Requirements
  • A tertiary qualification in Architecture
  • Strong technical knowledge across documentation, detailing and construction methodology
  • Proven NZ experience leading / delivery of commercial projects and complex building developments
  • Excellent understanding of QA procedures and technical review processes
  • Advanced Revit capability and strong BIM knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating consultants and multidisciplinary teamsThorough understanding of the NZ Building Code and regulatory environment
  • Strong leadership, mentoring and team development capabilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • The ability to balance technical delivery, client expectations and commercial outcomes
