Job summary

Potentia is seeking an experienced Technical Lead to join Christchurch's tech delivery team on a contract through to 30 June 2027, with an immediate start. This hands-on leadership role will guide multi-disciplinary teams, shape solution design and architecture, and keep delivery moving with developers, data specialists, and vendors.

You’ll bring strong Databricks expertise including Delta Lake, PySpark, Unity Catalog, and ETL/ELT pipelines, plus CI/CD with Azure DevOps or GitHub.

We’re looking for an experienced Technical Lead to join a technology delivery team, providing technical leadership across a large-scale data and technology initiative.

This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll guide technical delivery, contribute to solution design and architecture, and work closely with developers, architects, data specialists, stakeholders and vendors to keep delivery moving.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead the technical delivery workstream and provide direction to a multidisciplinary team
• Guide solution design, architecture and implementation
• Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring
• Work closely with delivery teams, stakeholders and vendors
• Get hands-on with development and technical delivery when required
• Identify and manage technical risks, issues and dependencies
• Support quality, security and operational standards
• Contribute to technical documentation and continuous improvement

What we’re looking for

You’ll bring strong technical leadership experience, ideally including:

• Experience leading multidisciplinary DevOps or technical delivery teams
• Strong coaching and mentoring capability
• Solid experience with Databricks, including Delta Lake, Notebooks, SQL, Python/PySpark, Unity Catalog and pipeline orchestration
• Strong ETL/ELT and data pipeline experience, including Medallion Architecture
• Experience with Databricks Workflows, Spark optimisation and pipeline monitoring
• CI/CD experience using Azure DevOps, GitLab or GitHub
• Experience with modern data warehousing platforms such as Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Redshift or BigQuery
• Exposure to Power BI and/or Tableau
• Strong Agile delivery experience and technical documentation skills
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

You’ll be pragmatic, delivery-focused and comfortable balancing technical leadership with hands-on contribution. The ability to build strong relationships, make sound technical decisions and keep teams moving will be key.
