Trade Tools Ltd is seeking a Technical Account Manager to join our growing High-Performance Sales Team, representing some of the industry’s most respected global brands, including Sutton, Seco, Walter, Mitutoyo and Cimcool.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Technical Sales Professional who understands the machining industry, enjoys building strong customer relationships, and has a proven ability to identify opportunities and grow sales within a territory.
You’ll have the autonomy to manage and develop your own territory while working closely with customers and leading global manufacturers to deliver high-performance tooling and innovative machining solutions.
About the Role
As a Technical Account Manager, you will be responsible for developing and supporting customers across the Auckland and Napier/Hastings regions.
Your focus will be on understanding customers’ machining challenges and providing technical and commercial solutions that improve productivity, tool life, process reliability and overall manufacturing performance.
You will represent a premium portfolio of products, including -
- High-Performance cutting tools from Sutton, Seco and Walter.
- Precision metrology equipment from Mitutoyo.
- Metalworking fluids from Cimcool.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Manage and grow an established sales territory while actively developing new business opportunities.
- Build strong, long-term relationships with machinists, engineers, production managers, business owners and procurement teams.
- Work directly with customers to optimise tooling performance and solve CNC machining challenges.
- Identify opportunities to improve customers’ productivity, reduce tooling costs and improve manufacturing processes.
- Conduct cutting tool trials and provide technical recommendations based on machining applications.
- Develop new accounts and grow existing key customer relationships.
- Manage pricing, quotations and commercial negotiations.
- Maintain a strong and active sales pipeline, converting opportunities into sustainable long-term business.
- Work closely with our key suppliers and technical partners to deliver the best possible solutions for customers.
- Take ownership of your territory, sales targets and overall business development.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a coordinated approach and deliver the best possible outcomes for customers.
What You'll Bring
Essential
- NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Full and valid NZ Driver Licence.
- Trade Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Fitting & Machining, Toolmaking, or an equivalent qualification).
- 5–10 years of hands-on CNC machining experience, ideally across both CNC machining centres and CNC lathes.
- Strong knowledge of cutting tools, machining processes, speeds and feeds, and tooling applications.
- Ideally 2-3+ years of sales experience within High-Performance cutting tools or a similar technical field. However, we are prepared to consider an exceptional CNC professional with the right personality and commercial aptitude.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
- A proactive approach to identifying and developing new business.
- Strong work ethic with excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Good computer literacy and the ability to effectively manage customer and sales information.
