Job summary

Westpac is seeking a Tech People Lead in New Zealand to build and sustain a high-performing tech workforce. You will lead talent strategy, governance, and workforce planning across the service group, collaborating with technology teams and business units to meet resourcing needs.

You will coach and mentor teams, oversee end-to-end employee lifecycle activities, and drive a positive, inclusive culture aligned with Westpac values. Applications close 28 October 2026.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience managing technical professionals.
• Proven experience leading large teams.
• Experience in recruitment and management of end-to-end employee lifecycle.
• Coaching, mentoring and facilitation skills.
• Ability to develop and grow high-performing people with role clarity and talent identification.
• SME knowledge of the practice area being managed is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead talent, people strategy, and workforce planning across the service group in partnership with key stakeholders.
• Build and maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe workplace culture aligned to Westpac values.
• Provide people leadership, coaching, and mentoring to develop high performing teams.
• Oversee end to end workforce activities including recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, and succession planning.
• Collaborate with internal technology teams and business units to meet resourcing needs.
• Manage resource allocation and ensure effective utilisation of people across the service group.
• Establish and maintain technology people frameworks, tools, and processes.
• Support and contribute to Product Engineering strategic objectives through strong people leadership.
• Lead cultural transformation and change initiatives where required.
