Rockit Recruitment – Wellington Central, North Island

We’re looking for an experienced Tech Lead to join a Wellington-based development team delivering high-quality technology products used across New Zealand and the United States.
This is a genuine hands‑on technical leadership role. You’ll lead and develop a team while remaining close to the technology, working alongside Product and Design from initial discovery through to delivery.
As part of a Product Trio, you’ll help turn customer problems into pragmatic technical solutions, assessing feasibility, dependencies, risk and effort while ensuring the team builds the right thing and builds it well.
You’ll take responsibility for technical delivery, team performance and quality, creating an environment where developers can do their best work and where value is delivered regularly.

What You’ll Be Doing You’ll:

• Lead the day-to-day technical delivery of a development team.
• Remain hands‑on with software development and technical decision‑making.
• Work closely with Product and Design to solve real customer problems.
• Assess technical feasibility, dependencies, effort, milestones and delivery risks.
• Coach and mentor developers and help lift capability across the team.
• Drive strong coding practices, automation, CI/CD, DevSecOps and cloud development.
• Take ownership of delivery quality, progress and technical outcomes.
• Lead troubleshooting and resolution of production and development issues.
• Improve team performance through Agile practices and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate across Product, Design, Delivery and Architecture.
• Identify technical bottlenecks and contribute to the longer‑term technology roadmap.
• Balance technical quality with pragmatic delivery and minimal technical debt.

What We’re Looking For You’ll be an experienced full stack developer who has moved into technical leadership without losing the desire to remain hands‑on.

You’ll bring:

• Strong full stack software development experience.
• Excellent C# / .NET capability.
• Experience with React and SQL.
• Experience or working knowledge of PowerShell.
• Strong understanding of quality coding practices.
• Experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS.
• Good knowledge of Agile development practices.
• Strong communication and people leadership skills.
• The ability to coach developers and build a collaborative, high‑trust team.
• A pragmatic approach to technical decision‑making and delivery.
• Curiosity about customers and the problems technology is there to solve.

Previous team leadership experience is highly desirable, with 1–2+ years in a leadership role considered ideal. Exposure to product discovery frameworks such as Product Trios or Double Diamond would also be valuable.
