Job summary

Americold is seeking an experienced Team Manager for our Halwyn site in Christchurch, NZ. You will oversee day-to-day operations, optimise people and resources, and drive safety, productivity, quality and customer service while developing a high-performing team.

Shift details: Sunday to Thursday 4:00pm to 12:30am (occasional OT). Lead with a hands-on, collaborative approach in a temperature-controlled distribution environment, focusing on continuous improvement and staff development.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of proven operational management experience in warehousing, logistics or distribution.
• Experience leading and managing teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong people leadership, coaching and development skills.
• Good knowledge of warehouse and distribution operations.
• Decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Hands-on leadership style, calm under busy periods.
• Experience in cold storage or temperature-controlled supply chains would be advantageous.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Operations Manager, we are looking for an experienced Team Manager to lead a team within the operations at our Halwyn site. You will oversee day-to-day operations, optimise people and resources, and drive safety, productivity, quality and customer service, while developing a high-performing team and supporting continuous improvement.

• Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Lead, motivate and develop the operations team to achieve high standards of performance, productivity and service.
• Plan and coordinate labour, equipment and resources to meet operational requirements while effectively managing costs.
• Monitor operational KPIs and identify opportunities to continuously improve performance, quality and efficiency.
• Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring safe work practices and company policies and procedures are consistently followed.
• Coach and mentor team members, identify development needs and support performance management and career development.
• Coordinate site activities with internal departments, stores and transport subcontractors to maintain high levels of customer service.

What Experience And Education You Need

• Minimum one year of proven operational management experience, ideally within warehousing, logistics or distribution.
• Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Strong people leadership skills, with experience coaching, mentoring and developing team members.
• Good knowledge of warehouse and distribution operations.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted working relationships and collaborate across different teams and functions.
• A practical, hands-on leadership style with the ability to remain calm and focused during busy operational periods.
• Experience in cold storage, FMCG, food distribution or other temperature-controlled supply chain environments would be highly regarded.
• Relevant logistics qualifications or equivalent experience are advantageous.
