Job summary

Whakaata Māori, New Zealand’s indigenous national broadcaster, seeks a Systems Engineer – Microsoft to support and enhance Microsoft-based platforms and the digital workplace. You’ll help ensure reliability, security and operation across Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, Teams and endpoint management.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online and OneDrive.
  • Manage user accounts, licensing, access and identity through Entra ID, including authentication and Conditional Access.
  • Administer Microsoft Intune and endpoint management, including device configurations and compliance policies.
  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for Microsoft cloud services and related technologies.
  • Support security controls and initiatives including MFA, identity governance and vulnerability management.
  • Identify opportunities to automate operational tasks and develop PowerShell scripts and automation workflows.
  • Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation and procedures.
  • Participate in technology projects, platform upgrades, testing and deployments.
  • Collaborate with IT Systems, stakeholders and vendors to deliver effective technology solutions.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the digital workplace and explore AI-assisted administration.

We are seeking a Systems Engineer – Microsoft to join our Whakahaere Hangarau (Technology) team. Working as part of the IT Systems team, you will support, maintain and enhance Whakaata Māori’s Microsoft-based technology platforms and digital workplace environment. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, security and effective operation of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, Teams and endpoint management services.

This role combines hands-on technical support and platform administration with continuous improvement, automation and technology project delivery. You will work closely with business stakeholders, technology teams and vendors to deliver secure, modern and user-focused technology services that enable staff across the organisation.

This is a full-time position based at our East Tāmaki head office.

Administer and support Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online and OneDrive.

Manage user accounts, licensing, access and identity through Entra ID, including authentication and Conditional Access.

Administer Microsoft Intune and endpoint management, including device configurations, compliance policies and application deployment.

Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for Microsoft cloud services and related technologies, investigating and resolving complex technical issues.

Support security controls and initiatives including Multi-Factor Authentication, identity governance, security monitoring and vulnerability management.

Identify opportunities to automate operational tasks and improve service delivery, including developing and maintaining PowerShell scripts and automation workflows where appropriate.

Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation, procedures, support guides, platform configurations and operational processes.

Participate in technology projects, platform upgrades, testing and deployments, ensuring changes are delivered successfully with minimal disruption.

Work closely with the IT Systems team, business stakeholders, vendors and service providers to resolve issues and deliver effective technology solutions.

Contribute to the ongoing evolution of Whakaata Māori’s digital workplace, including evaluating emerging Microsoft technologies and supporting the adoption of AI‑assisted administration where appropriate.

Contribute to knowledge sharing and cross-training within the team to ensure operational knowledge is retained and accessible.

Relevant industry experience and demonstrated capability in Microsoft cloud and workplace technologies.

Experience administering Microsoft 365 environments.

Experience with Entra ID (Azure AD), identity management and Microsoft security concepts.

Experience with Microsoft Intune and endpoint management.

Experience supporting Exchange Online and Teams.

Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and providing practical, sustainable solutions.

Strong documentation and communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams.

A practical, solutions-focused approach, with curiosity, initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Strong time‑management skills and the ability to balance competing operational and project priorities.

A commitment to developing your capability in te reo Māori and understanding and appropriately applying te ao Māori perspectives and tikanga Māori in your work.
