Job summary

IDEA Services supports adults with intellectual disabilities in their own homes and communities. We are seeking a Part-time Support Worker in Whakatane to help clients achieve goals and enjoy meaningful daily activities.

You will assist with daily living skills, nurture relationships, and help clients engage in community activities and job opportunities, while ensuring safety and well-being.

Qualifications

• Prev relevant experience preferred, but varied life experience is valued.
• Ability to build relationships with supported people and families.
• Strong communication and independent problem-solving abilities.
• Comfortable using technology and navigating community services.

Job description

• Whakatane (Part time)
• 34 hours per fortnight (includes 1 wakeover shift - 10pm to 7am)
• Availability to work every second weekend is required
• Rostered shifts between 7am and 10pm

We Are Looking For a Support Worker To Join Our Team. You Will Be Supporting People With Intellectual Disabilities Living In Their Own Homes To Achieve Their Goals And Aspirations. This Is Meaningful Work Where You Can Be Creative And Make Every Day Interesting In Ways That Are Important To Others. This Can Include Helping Them To

• Manage and learn daily living skills, such as cooking, cleaning and budgeting
• Keep in touch with family and friends as well as make new connections
• Join community activities (e.g. sports and art)
• Look for a job and navigate employment
• Manage social issues and access relevant community services
• Make good decisions and live a healthy lifestyle

Previous relevant experience is preferred, but more importantly, we are looking for someone with varied life experience and an open-minded attitude. You should also have:

• The skills to build good relationships with the people we support and help them make good decisions for themselves
• The ability to work independently and problem solve in complex situations
• Excellent communications skills and the ability to share information in a way that can be easily understood
• Comfortable and proficient in using technology
• You will need to be physically fit to support in a variety of activities
• Have a Full NZ driver's licence
• Must have full working rights for NZ
