We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, including Māori, Pasifika, people with lived experience of disability or mental health, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community

About the role

As a Support Worker, you'll work alongside disabled people to build confidence, strengthen independence, and achieve the goals that matter most to them.

Using a \"do with, not for\" approach, you'll encourage choice, participation, and self-determination while supporting people with everyday living, community participation, personal wellbeing, and meaningful relationships.

Support may include:

  • Assisting with daily living, household tasks, meal preparation, and personal care
  • Encouraging independence and community participation
  • Building life skills and confidence
  • Working collaboratively with whānau, colleagues, and other professionals
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and supporting individual plans

Our Hawke's Bay residential services operate across a 24/7 roster, including weekends, sleepovers, wakeovers, and public holidays.

Please note: This position is open only to female applicants. This reflects the personal care requirements and the privacy, dignity, and preferences of the people we support and is a genuine occupational requirement for those specific roles.

What you will bring

We're looking for people who are passionate about making a positive difference and who genuinely believe disabled people should have the same opportunities as everyone else.

  • Full New Zealand Driver Licence
  • NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3 or above) or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of disability, mental health, and Positive Behaviour Support
  • Commitment to a person-directed \"do with, not for\" approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a supportive team

You’ll also bring empathy, resilience, initiative, and a commitment to creating inclusive environments where people can thrive.

Why Join Community Connections?

At Community Connections, you’ll be part of a supportive team that values learning, collaboration, and making a meaningful difference every day.

Together, we’re creating an inclusive Aotearoa where disabled people are empowered to live the lives they choose.
