Job description

Support Worker - Casual Contract | Kapiti

We are seeking a dedicated Support Worker to join our vibrant and passionate organisation on a casual basis. At Community Connections, we believe in doing things collectively, driven by our unwavering passion for empowering people with disabilities to live the lives they choose.

About Us

Community Connections is a values-driven disability support provider operating across the North Island. Our vision is a fully inclusive Aotearoa, where disabled people are respected, supported, and able to live life on their own terms in the community they choose.

We’re an Equal Employment Opportunities employer, committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the New Zealand Disability Strategy. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, especially those with lived experience of disability or mental health, Māori, Pasifika, and LGBTQIA+ communities.

The Role

We’re looking for a compassionate and motivated Support Worker to join our Residential team in Kapiti. This is a casual role involving weekends and sleepovers; you will be working across a range of services to cover short-term vacancies.

The people you support value kindness, consistency, and building strong relationships with the people around them. Your role will be to promote their independence, respect their routines, and support them to continue living a full and connected life in their community. They enjoy a range of activities, especially the outdoors and going for walks.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative individual who is actively engaged in the Kapiti community. While having a background or interest in autism and intellectual disabilities is beneficial, an eagerness to learn is equally important. A commitment to making a positive impact on people's lives, community engagement, and strong non-verbal and verbal communication skills will make you a great fit for this role.

To succeed, you will need strong relationship-building skills, a calm and compassionate demeanor, and excellent communication skills. You would also need to enjoy the outdoors and be physically fit, as there’s a lot of walking and encouraging some individuals to stay physically fit.

Essential criteria for this role:
  • Full NZ Driver's Licence
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand
  • Willingness to undergo criminal and Oranga Tamariki checks
  • Availability to work weekend and overnight shifts
  • Knowledge of disability and an understanding of challenging behaviour
  • A drive to help people succeed in their wider community
  • Understanding of autism
Why Join Us

At Community Connections, you’ll be part of a supportive, values-driven team that’s passionate about making a real difference. We’re committed to your personal and professional development, including support to gain your Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing.

We value the work you do and offer a range of benefits, including:
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities
