Job summary

IDEA Services is hiring a Support Worker to help adults with intellectual disabilities live independently in their own homes in the Manawatu/Rangitikei region. The role involves hands-on care, meal prep, personal support, and sometimes transport or medication assistance.

No prior health-sector experience is required, as full training and orientation are provided to motivated individuals. Weekend and sleepover shifts are available to support the team and clients.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage risk and work in challenging situations.
• Full NZ driver’s license required.

No two days are ever the same! More than providing support, you'll play an important role in helping people build confidence, develop independence, and live life on their own terms. This is a hands‑on role that requires physical fitness, resilience, sound judgement, and the confidence to manage risk and respond effectively in challenging situations. Daily tasks in this role could include meal preparation, shopping, household tasks, personal care, transportation, or medication administration.

No prior experience in the health and disability sector is necessary, but a strong desire to pursue a career as a Support Worker with a positive attitude is highly valued. Full training and orientation will be provided to individuals who demonstrate enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

• Availability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and sleepover shifts.
• Comfortable and proficient in using computers and tablets daily.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Physical fitness to provide necessary physical support.
• Full NZ driver's license is required
