Job summary

Care on Call in Wellington is seeking a compassionate support worker who understands challenging behaviours and can provide patient, thoughtful assistance to clients in their homes. You will work mornings, late afternoons and evenings, performing personal care, meal prep and practical tasks with empathy.

The role offers ongoing training, access to resources and a supportive team, with a focus on continuity of care and reliability.

Qualifications

• Experience caring for clients with challenging behaviours.
• L2-L4 health qualifications are essential.
• Current, clean full driver's licence required.
• NZ work eligibility is required.
• Previous caregiver/support worker experience with similar clients.
• Reliability, punctuality, honesty and compassion are essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide full personal care including showers and daily activities.
• Assist with meal preparation and feeding as required.
• Support clients with shopping and pharmacy pickups.
• Follow care plans accurately and communicate changes to the team.
• Collaborate with care staff to maintain continuity of care.

Care on Call is passionate about supporting people in the community and we take pride in the personalised service we deliver to clients and the staff we work with.

We are seeking a well-spoken, positive, and empathetic individual who understands the complexities of challenging behaviours and can offer patient, thoughtful support—particularly on difficult days.

We are seeking a fantastic support worker who:

• Strong understanding of and experience with challenging behaviours
• Familiarity with hoist use
• Experience in working with clients who use power chairs
• Ability to work collaboratively within a care team
• Availability for morning, late afternoon, and evening shifts
• Comfortable providing full personal care, including showering and managing prolonged bowel stimulation
• Competent with meal preparation
• Willing to assist with shopping and pharmacy pick-ups
• Good comprehension of directions and ability to follow tasks accurately

What we need from you:

• Have consistent and long-term availability (we like to ensure continuity with our clients)
• A current, clean full driver’s licence
• The legal right to work in NZ
• L2, L3 and L4 health qualification essential: If you have no health qualification your application may not be considered.
• Previous experience as a caregiver/support worker with similar clients
• To be reliable, punctual, honest and caring
