Job summary

Oranga Tamariki invites applications for Allied Support Worker roles to assist frontline Social Work teams, delivering home visits, administrative tasks, and transport for tamariki and rangatahi across sites. The roles provide stable, ongoing support and do not involve case loads or social work activities.

Under supervision of qualified Social Workers, you will help prepare for Family Group Conferences, manage sensitive information, and contribute to positive outcomes for tamariki and whānau.

Qualifications

• Experience working in the community to assist or support people in need.
• Experience working with Māori and/or Pasifika cultures.
• Ability to handle emotional situations with empathy and compassion.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with peers and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-demand support across a site based on daily team needs.
• Assist social workers to enter case notes into CYRAS and other systems.
• Safely transport tamariki and rangatahi between locations (appointments, school, sports).
• Support and assist with administrative tasks for Family Group Conferences (FGC).
• Assist social workers in care of tamariki and rangatahi during placements.
• Make administrative arrangements for tamariki in placement or transitions.
• Support tamariki in school or return after periods away.
• Document contact notes from supervised visits and write up contacts.
• Some weekends and after-hours work is required.
• Foster cooperative working relations with internal colleagues and external partners and stakeholders.
