Job summary

Hōhepa Canterbury is seeking casual Support Workers to join our community-focused team. You will assist people with disabilities in homes, the community, and day services, with shifts from mornings to nights and rosters with flexible hours.

Applicants must have a NZ full driver’s licence and be able to work in New Zealand. On-the-job training is provided, and we support NZQF Health & Wellbeing certificates 2–4. Benefits include gym and pool discounts, Long service leave, and other staff perks.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day support to people with disabilities in home, community, and day services.
• Assist with cooking, cleaning and medication administration as needed.
• Procure stores and manage simple errands.
• Facilitate community participation and recreational activities.
• Support individuals to achieve their goals and follow person-centered plans.
• Adapt to varied shifts and rosters in a 24/7 operation.

Job description

With recent growth in our services, we have several exciting opportunities to join one of Support Worker Teams. We have six casual positions available.

As a Support Worker you will work alongside our people to provide day-to-day support. You will be supporting people with disabilities in a range of settings including in their home, out in the community and at our day services. The people we support love getting out into the community, whether its shopping, beach walks, coffee and cake outings, visiting friends, supporting the Crusaders, going to markets and fairs, or heading to the pub for a pint, to name just a few.

The people we support have varying levels of need, and daily tasks vary from service to service but may include cooking, cleaning, medication administration, stores purchasing, personal cares, as well as facilitating community participation, recreational activities, and supporting people to achieve their goals. You may also provide person-centered support in homes where routine is critical; following details plans to meet the needs of the people.

We are a 24/7 operation - you would let us know when you are available to work and be given a roster each fortnight to reflect your availability. We will also call you when we have last minute leave to cover. You could do as little as 6 hours a week and up to 50 hours a week. You pick and choose what suits you! Our shift patterns include morning, evening, overnight (awake and asleep) and split shifts.

This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.95 and $30 per hour.

We feel that the title Support Coordinator better reflects the nature of the role, which requires working in partnership with the people receiving support to ensure we are achieving our organisation mission of every life fully lived.
