Job summary

OceanaGold in Waihi invites an experienced maintenance supervisor to lead underground maintenance teams and contractors. You will drive availability of underground mobile plant, mentor staff, plan work, and ensure safe, compliant operations in a residential site near Coromandel beaches.

The role requires 5+ years mining maintenance in underground operations, and a mechanical trade certificate with a CP. A full NZ driving licence is needed, with manual vehicle experience preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years mining maintenance in underground operations.
• Previous supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
• Mechanical knowledge of equipment capabilities and PM methods.
• Experience with proactive maintenance in high-pressure environments.
• Underground mobile plant and ancillary equipment background.
• Experience promoting a safe culture and compliance.
• Proficiency with Pronto, Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Direct supervision of underground maintenance activities, including contractors.
• Maximise availability of underground mobile plant and equipment.
• Provide technical guidance and schedule work.
• Ensure safe, timely maintenance and breakdown coverage.
• Develop training needs and mentor maintenance staff.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

To provide direct supervision of all maintenance activities undertaken by the underground maintenance department (including contractors) and ancillary personnel.

Operational

• Oversee the underground maintenance team tasked with maximising availability of underground mobile plant and equipment.
• Provide technical guidance to personnel.
• Schedule work and supervision of personnel in maintenance activities.
• Maintenance activities are carried out safely and in a timely matter.
• Ensure maintenance coverage for breakdowns.
• Ensure adequate resources are available for scheduled maintenance.
• Develop a sense of continuous improvement.
• Ensure appropriate training and competency requirements of the maintenance department are met.
• Accurate recording of all maintenance activities.

Production

• Ensure safe and healthy work practices are followed.
• Complies with all safety requirements and observes all company policies and procedures.

People Management

• Motivate, lead and mentor the Maintenance team.
• Develop maintenance staff performance and ensure accepted team performance is achieved.
• Provide coaching, training, and mentoring to maintenance team.
• Negotiate conflicts in team for the best possible result.
• Identify skill gaps and recommend training for individuals in order to develop succession plans for crew members.
• Relevant mechanical trade certificate.
• Ability to obtain the relevant Certificate of Competence.
• Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.

Experience

• 5 years plus mining maintenance experience in medium to large underground operations.
• Previous supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
• Mechanical knowledge to a level of understanding equipment capabilities, maintenance scheduling and preventative maintenance methods.
• Proven experience demonstrating pro‑active maintenance in a high-pressure environment.
• Background and technical knowledge of underground mobile plant and ancillary equipment.
• Demonstrated experience complying with and driving a positive safety culture.
• Sound knowledge and experience using computer programs such as Pronto, Excel and Word.
