Job summary

Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC) invites applications for a Summer Internship in Molecular Inbreeding Depression at our Newstead, North Island campus. The project explores the molecular architecture of inbreeding depression, leveraging genomic information and novel genetic techniques to reduce negative effects on dairy cattle fitness and performance.

You will contribute to benchmarking software, compiling recessive variant lists, and extending analyses with functional annotations,

Qualifications

• Multidisciplinary genetics knowledge for quantitative or molecular work.
• Exposure to data science and modelling is desirable.
• Experience with diverse genetic/analyti cal approaches is valued.

Responsibilities

• Benchmark software for quantifying inbreeding in genotyped dairy cattle.
• Compile recessive variant lists from mapping studies.
• Evaluate functional variant annotations influencing inbreeding metrics.
• Assess how new inbreeding knowledge could influence LIC breeding schemes and sire selection.
