Job summary

LIC in Newstead (Hamilton region) invites students to join a hands-on internship within our R&D team, focusing on calf defect data and genetic analysis. You’ll work on data management, phenotype refinement, and exploring trends that could feed future genetic discoveries.

Eligible applicants must study in NZ, be legally permitted to work, and be available for the 10-week, on-site program at LIC’s Head Office.

Qualifications

• Knowledge on either animal/human disease OR data analysis in R/python.
• Willingness to learn.
• Strong Excel expertise.
• Problem solving.
• Veterinary, genetics or data science students are particularly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Organise and categorise calf data to establish a structured data management workflow.
• Analyse data to identify emerging trends and patterns for potential genetic research.
• Contribute to outputs that improve data handling and insight generation for defects.
