Job summary

Westpac New Zealand offers a 11-week Summer Internship Programme in Auckland, from early November to late February. You’ll join a dynamic team on banking initiatives, own a final-year project, and participate in workshops to learn bank operations and professional communication.

A living wage is provided for the entire internship, with some work-from-home days possible. Eligible candidates have completed the second year of the BBFinTech degree and are in their final year of study, ready to set up

UoW Bachelor Banking Finance and Technology ‘2027 Westpac Summer Internship Programme

What can I expect from the programme?

Our Summer Internship programme will give you an immersive, professional experience like no other in the real world of banking, here at Westpac.

You will join a dynamic team of dedicated professionals working on key banking initiatives to make an active contribution and bring your fresh perspectives while you learn.

You will also be provided with a special task contributing to your team’s work, that you will own, which will form the basis of the professional banking experience you will write about to complete your final year paper FNTEC397, FinTech Industry Experience.

Internships are based in Auckland and will run for 11 weeks from early November to late February, with a 3x week break over the Christmas period, and you will be paid a living wage for the 11 weeks.

Throughout the programme:

You will be warmly welcomed in your team, supported by your team leader and colleagues who will all take you under their wings to ensure you know what to do, and how your work contributes to the ‘bigger picture’ of Westpac’s purpose as a bank, which is all about to ‘taking action now to create a better future for our customers, communities, and people’.

Beyond your team work, you will also participate in a few facilitated workshops to learn more about how Westpac operates as a bank, our workplace culture, as well as gaining some key professional business communications skills.

We will also be very mindful that you are here to learn, so you will be encouraged to just dive in and ‘give it a go’, try things out, and learn from trial and error, and make mistakes, and at all stages we will encourage you to live your experience as your true authentic self, adding to Westpac’s proud and colourful mix of diversity among our people.

The day to day:

You will be provided with a laptop and Westpac email address, and work within the daily and weekly operating rythym of your team, which may well include working from home some days of the week.

As an intern you will also have regular 1-1 catch ups with our Summer Intern programme leader, who will provide you with an opportunity and the space to talk quietly and freely about how its all going, what you are learning about and receive guidance if you are struggling with anything.

To be eligible, you must have completed your second year of the BBFinTech degree and be in your final year of study and be able to set yourself up in Auckland to participate in the Summer Internship programme.
