Job summary

Westpac New Zealand is seeking a Senior Software Developer to design, develop, test, and maintain scalable back-end applications and API integrations. This role requires strong technical leadership and collaboration to deliver high-quality software powering digital experiences.

You will drive CI/CD, containerisation, automated testing, and SDLC documentation, while mentoring peers and defining best practices for security and performance.

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience across backend and API development.
• Proficiency with server-side development - Java, Spring Boot.
• Experience in designing and maintaining integrations with a wide variety of applications and APIs.
• Experience in DevOps such as CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and deployment automation.
• Strong knowledge of database schema design, transactions and queries.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and integration solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly, ensuring system stability and participating in after-hours support when required.
• Ensure best practice in API design, coding standards, performance and security.
• Collaborate with project teams from concept through delivery to ensure solutions meet business and technical requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and peers.
• Create and maintain documentation throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to support transparency and knowledge sharing.
• Implement changes aligned with design specifications and evolving business needs.
• Analyse recurring issues and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reliability.
• Maintain and refine support procedures to ensure resilience and minimize downtime.
• Contribute to release and deployment processes, ensuring accurate documentation and governance standards.
• Implement automated testing and ensure high-quality code through code reviews and continuous integration practices.
