Job summary

Northpower is hiring a Trainee Electrical Fitter in Whangārei to learn how to construct, install and maintain electrical equipment in substations. You'll train alongside experienced pros and contribute to safe, high-quality work across the network.

You'll be supported through hands-on learning, with opportunities to develop practical skills and build a long-term career in the electricity sector with a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• NZ Class 1 driver licence and a commitment to safety are required.
• Strong maths foundation with measurements and calculations.
• Interest in mechanics, electronics or electrical systems.
• Willingness to learn and develop in a hands-on environment.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with electrical fitting and maintenance work under supervision.
• Learn to safely work on network and substation equipment.
• Maintain records and complete required documentation.
• Assist with heights work using access equipment and safety procedures.
• Collaborate with team, project managers and stakeholders.
• Contribute to delivering safe, high-quality outcomes for customers.
• Engage in training and development opportunities.
• Uphold Northpower safety, quality and environmental standards.
