Job summary

Cook Costello is seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Auckland team, delivering a diverse range of structural engineering projects for clients across Auckland and nationwide. You will work with Senior and Chartered Engineers and progress toward Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status.

Ideal candidates have BE (Hons) in Structural Engineering, 3–6 years NZ consultancy experience, and software skills (ETABS, SAP2000 and SpaceGass), plus NZ standards knowledge.

Qualifications

• BE (Hons) specialising in Structural Engineering (Washington Accord accredited).
• Approximately 3–6 years structural design experience, preferably within a NZ consultancy.
• Experience using analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000 and SpaceGass.
• Good working knowledge of NZ standards including NZS 1170, NZS 3101, NZS 3404 and NZS 3604.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Working toward CPEng or intending to pursue registration.

Responsibilities

• Structural analysis and design of timber, steel, reinforced concrete and masonry structures.
• Preparation of design calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
• Detailed Seismic Assessments (DSA) of existing buildings.
• Site inspections, structural assessments and construction monitoring.
• Coordination with architects, contractors and project stakeholders.
• Contributing practical, efficient and buildable design solutions.

Cook Costello is a multi-disciplinary Engineering Consultancy delivering Structural, Civil, Geotechnical, Surveying and Geophysics services across New Zealand. We are seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Auckland team, delivering a diverse range of structural engineering projects for clients across Auckland and nationwide.

This role is ideally suited to an engineer who has developed solid structural design experience and is ready to take increasing responsibility for the technical delivery of projects while progressing towards Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status.

The Role

You will play an active role in delivering a diverse range of new build and existing building projects, working closely with Senior and Chartered Engineers while developing increasing technical and project responsibility.

Your work will include:

• Structural analysis and design of timber, steel, reinforced concrete and masonry structures
• Preparation of design calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports
• Detailed Seismic Assessments (DSA) of existing buildings
• Site inspections, structural assessments and construction monitoring
• Coordination with architects, contractors and project stakeholders
• Contributing practical, efficient and buildable design solutions

You will be involved across projects from concept design through to construction support, gaining broad project exposure within a collaborative consultancy environment.

You will have the opportunity to take ownership of project components appropriate to your experience, while continuing to receive guidance and technical support from experienced Chartered Engineers.
