Job summary

Ministerial Services within the New Zealand Parliament invites expressions of interest from talented professionals to work in a Ministerial office for the 55th Executive Government.

Advisory and policy roles provide general and political advice to Ministers on portfolios, shaping policy, legislation, and decision-making across government. Roles may be lone advisers or part of a small team, with mandatory National Security Clearances and a three‑year Parliamentary term.

Qualifications

• Experience advising Ministers on policy and legislation.
• Ability to analyse complex information and present clear guidance.
• Strong stakeholder management and discretion.
• Knowledge of NZ machinery of government and parliamentary processes.
• Familiarity with the Official Information Act (OIA).
• Experience contributing to policy development and risk assessment.

Responsibilities

• Provide general and political advice to Ministers on portfolios.
• Develop policy and progress legislation within a Minister's portfolio.
• Build and manage relationships with Ministers, caucus, coalition and support parties.
• Work as a sole advisor or as part of a small advisory team.
• Identify risks and provide practical, timely guidance to support decisions.
