Job summary

Maritime NZ is seeking a communications professional for a fixed-term role through to June 2027, covering a secondment. You will develop internal and strategic communications, engage with the maritime sector, and coordinate media responses across government and non-government partners.

The role involves liaison on safety campaigns, search and rescue communications, and workplace health campaigns, with an on-call roster for media queries and maritime events.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification or 1–3 years’ experience in PR/journalism.
• Sound knowledge of media tools and channels, including social media.
• Experience working with AI in a communications context.
• Experience in a public-sector communications role is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and implementation of high-quality internal and strategic communications.
• Coordinate and manage media issues and responses across agencies and stakeholders.
• Engage with the maritime sector to tell the organisation's story.
• Collaborate on search and rescue campaigns and maritime safety communications.
