Foodstuffs NZ’s Tekapo Four Square in Lake Tekapo seeks an experienced Store Manager to lead day-to-day operations alongside the Owner Operator. You will drive store performance, customer service excellence, and overall compliance in a hands-on retail leadership role.

Based in the Mackenzie District, you will manage teams across departments, recruit and onboard new staff, and foster a positive, accountable culture while ensuring a great shopping experience for locals and visitors alike.

Tekapo Four Square is seeking an experienced and motivated Store Manager to work alongside the Owner Operator and lead the day-to-day operations of our busy supermarket. This is an exciting opportunity for a proven retail leader who is passionate about customer service, team development, operational excellence, and commercial performance.

Based in the stunning Mackenzie District, you'll be responsible for leading our team, driving store performance, maintaining high retail standards, and ensuring our customers enjoy an outstanding shopping experience every day.

About the Role

As Store Manager, you will oversee the overall operation of the store and provide leadership across all departments. You'll work closely with department managers and supervisors to ensure sales, profitability, customer service, health and safety, and food safety targets are consistently achieved.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong operational management, people leadership, and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

Store Leadership & Operations

• Lead the daily operation of the supermarket.
• Ensure all departments achieve sales, gross profit and wage budgets.
• Drive stock control, stock ordering, receiving, and inventory management.
• Maintain exceptional retail presentation standards throughout the store.
• Oversee store maintenance programmes, repairs, and key-holder responsibilities.
• Manage alarm callouts and ensure critical store systems remain operational.
• Lead, coach, and develop department managers, supervisors, and team members.
• Conduct performance reviews and support ongoing staff development.
• Assist with recruitment and onboarding of new team members.
• Foster a positive, supportive, and accountable team culture.

Customer Experience

• Deliver exceptional customer service standards across the store.
• Handle customer concerns professionally and effectively.
• Promote product knowledge and ensure accurate advice is provided to customers.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Food Safety, and company policies.
• Maintain Loss Prevention and security procedures.
• Promote a strong safety culture where everyone is accountable for workplace wellbeing.
• Ensure compliance with relevant New Zealand employment and retail legislation.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Minimum 2 years' management experience in a supermarket or retail environment.
• Proven leadership and people management skills.
• Strong computer and administrative skills.
• LCQ Qualification and current Manager's Certificate.
• NZQA Food Hygiene Units 167 & 168 (or equivalent).
• Knowledge of New Zealand Health & Safety requirements.
• Understanding of New Zealand employment legislation.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Foodstuffs South Island Leadership Academy graduate.
• Foodstuffs South Island Management Academy completion.
• First Aid Certificate.
• Hazardous Substance Certification.
• Additional leadership and management training.
