Job summary

Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital is seeking a Sterile Services Technician for a full-time, 12-month fixed-term parental leave cover in Christchurch, New Zealand. You will clean, inspect, assemble, sterilise, and distribute surgical instruments while upholding infection prevention and quality standards.

Ideal candidates have NZ Certificate in Sterilisation, endoscopy reprocessing and orthopaedic instrumentation experience, plus strong team collaboration and computer skills.

Qualifications

• Current experience as a Sterile Services Technician or in a similar role.
• Sound knowledge of sterilisation practices, infection prevention, and quality standards.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Basic computer skills and confidence using Microsoft Windows-based systems.
• Current endoscopy reprocessing experience is highly desirable.
• Current experience with orthopaedic instrumentation and loan equipment is highly desirable.

Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital

Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital is the largest hospital within Southern Cross Healthcare’s national network and easily accessed within central Christchurch. The hospital consists of ten digital operating theatres and features robotic technology with a highly experienced robotic team, advanced digital scanning technologies, and consulting facilities onsite. The hospital provides a first-class preadmission service, admissions services, day surgery and three inpatient wards including a high dependency area.

The hospital offers a wide range of elective surgical services including Orthopaedic, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Oral and Facial Maxillary, Urology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic & Reconstructive, Bariatric, General, and Endoscopic surgery. The hospital employs over 350 highly skilled and trained staff to ensure patients receive high-quality care.

We're looking for a Sterile Services Technician to join our team at Southern Cross Christchurch Hospital in a full-time (1 FTE) 12-month fixed-term contract covering parental leave. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in patient care while working in a supportive and collaborative environment.

As part of our Sterile Services team, you'll be responsible for cleaning, inspecting, assembling, sterilising, and distributing surgical instruments and medical equipment used throughout the hospital. You'll help ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and infection prevention are maintained, giving our clinical teams the confidence they need to deliver exceptional patient care.

• Current experience working as a Sterile Services Technician or in a similar role
• New Zealand Certificate in Sterilisation (Level 4) or an equivalent recognised qualification
• Sound knowledge of sterilisation practices, infection prevention, and quality standards
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a busy environment
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
• A reliable, proactive, and professional approach to work
• Basic computer skills and confidence using Microsoft Windows-based systems
• Current endoscopy reprocessing experience is highly desirable
• Current experience with orthopaedic instrumentation and loan equipment is highly desirable
