Job summary

NZQA in Wellington seeks a Statistical Analyst for a fixed-term role from October 2026 to end of June 2027. You will work with data and statistics to support NZQA in administering the NCEA qualification and NZ Scholarship examinations.

The ideal candidate will have experience with R, Excel, and interpreting data for diverse audiences, with a strong eye for detail and an awareness of the Treaty of Waitangi. You will join a supportive team of Data Analysts and Statistical Analysts.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of parametric and non-parametric statistics.
• Experience using R for data analysis and reporting.
• Proficiency with Excel and data interpretation for varied audiences.
• Attention to data quality and documentation.
• Ability to understand and implement Treaty of Waitangi considerations.

Responsibilities

• Provide data, analyses and statistics to support NZQA in administering the NCEA qualification and NZ Scholarship examinations.

# Statistical Analyst## About this role**Statistical Analyst - Fixed term - 30 June 2027****Location: Wellington**Are you passionate about working with data and generating insights? Do you have an interest in the education sector?We are seeking a Statistical Analyst for a fixed-term role from October 2026 to the end of June 2027. We provide data, analyses and statistics to support NZQA in administering the NCEA qualification and NZ Scholarship examinations.**Skills and experience**The ideal candidate will have:* An understanding of parametric and non-parametric statistical analysis techniques.* Experience working with R.* Experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel required).* Experience in interpretation and analysis of data for a variety of audiences.* Good knowledge of core business practices of a reporting or data analysis team.* Details focused with high standards of quality.* An understanding of and sensitivity to the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications and the ability to demonstrate this in their work – with particular emphasis on achieving successful outcomes for Māori.The following skills and experience are not required but may be an advantage:* An understanding of the New Zealand Qualifications Framework and its impact on the secondary or tertiary training/education sectors* Experience in SQL (or similar) query writing.* Exposure to Business Intelligence toolsets and methodologies (Crystal Reports / Business Objects / PowerBI preferred).You will be working in a team including Data Analysts and Statistical Analysts.If you are looking to work in a supportive team environment, with opportunities to learn and grow your knowledge and skills, this might be the role for you.**About us**NZQA is a te reo Māori learning organisation and is committed to equity and lifelong learning.
