Stats NZ Tatauranga Aotearoa, part of the New Zealand Government, is seeking a Business Analyst for an 18-month fixed-term role in Christchurch (Wellington considered). Business Analyst | Kaitātari Pakihi1 x Fixed- Term role for 18- months Join our Development Team within Insights & Statistics and help shape how we deliver statistical outputs and services. This fixed-term opportunity will see you partner with stakeholders to understand business needs, improve processes, support change initiatives, and identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness across our delivery environment. Location: Christchurch Preferred but Wellington Considered.

The role

As a Business Analyst, you'll work with leaders and teams across our statistical delivery environment to understand business needs, improve processes, and support change initiatives. You'll analyse current ways of working, engage stakeholders, assess impacts, and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and business outcomes. This role has a strong operational and advisory focus. You'll develop a deep understanding of statistical delivery, provide advice on business challenges and change initiatives, and identify practical opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

• Building a strong understanding of statistical delivery and business operations.
• Leading business process analysis, process mapping and continuous improvement activities.
• Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness and service delivery.
• Providing advice and support for change initiatives, including impact assessments and change planning.
• Facilitating workshops and engaging stakeholders to understand challenges and opportunities.
• Developing clear business requirements, recommendations and process documentation.
• Supporting business units to evaluate options and implement practical, sustainable solutions.
• Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

What you bring

You'll bring:

• Experience in business analysis, business process improvement, operational excellence or a related discipline.
• Proven ability to analyse complex business processes and identify practical opportunities for improvement.
• Experience supporting organisational change initiatives and providing change-related advice.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of an organisation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Experience developing business requirements, process maps, impact assessments and recommendations.
• The ability to communicate complex information in a clear and accessible way.
• A continuous improvement mindset and a focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.
• A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
• A familiarity with, or commitment to learn and understand, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori, tikanga Māori and te reo Māori.

Desirable Experience working in a statistical, data, operational delivery, public sector, or large complex organisational environment. Familiarity with business process modelling and continuous improvement methodologies. Understanding of change management frameworks and practices.

Starting salary for this position:$84,027- $113683 + kiwisaver
