Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children invites applications for an Analyst, Data Response to turn data into insights that support decisions, performance and priorities. You will deliver high‑quality analysis, support information requests and contribute to reporting products and automated solutions.

You will work with experienced analysts, develop dashboards, and help shape outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi while maintaining strong privacy practices.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Data Analytics, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science or a related discipline.
• Experience using data and analytical tools to support reporting, research or business analysis.
• Experience using SQL and querying data.
• Experience with Python, R or similar analytical programming languages.
• Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
• Ability to communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples’ culture.

Responsibilities

• Providing quality-assured data and analysis to support Official Information Act requests, Parliamentary Questions, Ministerial correspondence and other high-profile information requests.
• Extracting, transforming and analysing data from organisational systems and platforms.
• Producing analytical outputs, reports and insights that are accurate, timely and fit for purpose.
• Supporting the development and maintenance of dashboards, reporting products and automated reporting solutions.
• Identifying data quality issues, trends and anomalies and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Working closely with business stakeholders to understand information needs and support evidence-based decision-making.
• Maintaining strong data governance, privacy and confidentiality practices.
• Documenting analytical methodologies, business rules and reporting processes.
