Job summary

OfficeMax New Zealand is seeking a Specialist Sales – Packaging solutions. You will work on-site with customers, learning their operations, spotting opportunities, and recommending packaging solutions that improve their packing, moving, and protection processes.

You'll build trusted advisor relationships across customer operations, influence decisions, and uncover new opportunities to win business. Reporting to the National Sales Manager for Packaging & Safety, territory spans from West Auckland

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years business development management or specialist sales experience.
• Strong technical knowledge of packaging products and fit-for-purpose solutions.
• Proven track record of identifying opportunities and winning new business.
• Excellent customer engagement, negotiation and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Packaging category sales and margin growth targets.
• Collaborate with the sales team to identify and grow opportunities.
• Build and maintain a sales pipeline and convert opportunities.
• Represent OfficeMax in the field as a packaging expert, providing knowledge and solutions on-site.
• Coordinate responses to tenders and RFPs within packaging.
• Act as a technical subject matter expert on packaging products including sustainability.
• Source packaging products with OfficeMax buyers and suppliers.
• Maintain up-to-date pipeline and customer activity in Salesforce CRM.

The Role: Specialist Sales – Packaging solutions

Bring fresh thinking and hands‑on expertise to help customers improve the way they pack, move, and protect their products. Working alongside our Account Managers, you'll get out on site, learn how customers operate, spot opportunities, and recommend smart packaging solutions that make a real difference to their business.

This is more than a sales role. By understanding their challenges you’ll be a trusted advisor and uncover new opportunities to win business. Build strong relationships across all levels of a customer's operation and influence key decisions to help shape better outcomes for the customers.

Reporting to our National Sales Manager for Packaging & Safety (based in Christchurch), you'll cover a territory from West Auckland, the North Shore to Whangārei. Experience in logistics, warehousing, transport or manufacturing would be valuable, but what matters most is your ability to connect with people, think strategically, to drive innovation, and create your own success.

Your Key Responsibilities Are

• Ensure the delivery of the Packaging category sales and margin growth, customer satisfaction and retention targets
• Work collaboratively with the broader sales team to identify, convert sales and grow opportunities through joint sales strategies
• Proactively build and maintain sales pipeline, qualify size of opportunities and convert
• Represent OfficeMax in the field as specialist sales expert, providing Packaging product knowledge and expertise, professional and compelling solutions, on-site workspace and equipment planning and communications
• Manage and co-ordinate OfficeMax’s response to requests for Tenders and RFPs within the Packaging environment
• Act as the technical subject matter expert on all elements of Packaging products, including sustainability expertise and fit for purpose requirements
• Collaborate with OfficeMax buyers and suppliers to source Packaging products for customer requirements/specifications
• Ensure all pipeline and customer information and activity is up to date in Salesforce CRM

What You Will Bring

• 3-5+ years business development management or specialist sales experience, ideally within packaging, manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, industrial, or related industry sectors.
• Strong technical knowledge of packaging products, applications, and fit-for-purpose solutions, with the ability to provide expert advice to customers and colleagues.
• A proven track record of identifying opportunities, winning new business, and consistently achieving or exceeding sales targets.
• Strong customer engagement, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with a consultative approach.
• An innovative mindset, with the ability to uncover new opportunities, challenge traditional approaches, and develop value-added solutions for customers.
• A positive, proactive attitude with a growth mindset, curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to collaborate across teams to achieve shared success.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information in a clear and compelling way.
