Job summary

NZ Ministry of Education – Mount Eden, North Island is seeking a full-time Special Education Advisor to join a community-focused team that maximises learning and promotes social inclusion for children with learning support needs.

You will work with educators, parents and whānau to develop effective learning plans, support inclusive practices in classrooms and collaborate with services across the region. This fixed-term role runs until July 2027 and requires a current driver licence.

Qualifications

• Teaching qualification with minimum three years' teaching experience.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Special Education required.
• Experience supporting children with learning needs and challenging behaviours.
• Ability to collaborate with education professionals and agencies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with diverse communities.
• Experience in Māori-medium settings or knowledge of Māori informed practices advantageous.
• Understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga principles.

Responsibilities

• Identify patterns influencing learning, wellbeing and behaviour.
• Collaborate with the child, family, educators and whānau to understand the child.
• Help modify learning environments to improve participation and safety.
• Facilitate access to services such as speech therapy and local agencies.
• Assess, plan, develop and monitor individual learning plans.
• Promote inclusive practices across early learning and schools.
