Job summary

Novotel & Ibis Rotorua Lakeside in Rotorua, NZ, is seeking a skilled Sous Chef to join its busy kitchen team. You will work closely with the Head Chef to oversee daily operations across restaurants, functions and hotel events.

The ideal candidate has supervisory experience, a passion for food, strong leadership, and the ability to maintain high standards during service in a fast-paced resort environment. This full-time role offers opportunities for career progression within the Accor hotel

Qualifications

• Experienced Chef with supervisory or Sous Chef experience.
• Knowledgeable about food safety and kitchen compliance.
• Excellent team leadership and hands-on approach.
• Flexibility to work across a 7-day operation.

Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef with daily kitchen operation.
• Lead and supervise the kitchen team during service.
• Prepare and present high-quality food consistently.
• Assist with menu development and seasonal offerings.
• Ensure food quality, presentation and portion control are maintained.
• Manage food preparation and service requirements.
• Monitor food costs, wastage and stock levels.
• Ensure food safety and hygiene standards are followed.
• Train and develop junior chefs and kitchen team members.
• Assist with rostering and daily staff allocation.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen.
• Support functions, conferences and hotel events.
• Step into the Head Chef's role when required.

About the Role

As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to oversee the day-to-day operation of the kitchen across our restaurants, functions and hotel operations.

• Reliable, professional and hands-on
• Able to maintain high standards during busy service periods
• Knowledgeable about food safety and kitchen compliance
• Commercially aware, with an understanding of food costs and wastage
• Flexible and available to work across a 7-day operation, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
