Job summary

Salt Digital Recruitment is seeking a Manager - Data Engineering in New Zealand. The role leads a team of 12-15 data engineers and 1 cloud engineer, balancing hands-on consulting, presales, and people management.

You will drive data engineering solutions, client relationships, and internal capability growth, reporting to the Director. Expect a 5-day onsite work week with a salary range of $180,000–$200,000 NZD, flexible for the right fit.

Qualifications

• Experience leading data engineering & analytics teams in complex environments.
• Strong background in Data Warehousing, Data Construct, and multi-dimensional modelling.
• Mandatory experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP; hands-on with at least two cloud platforms.
• Proficiency in data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, Google Data Studio).
• Direct team leadership and consulting background; capable of client-facing delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of Data Engineering Solutions.
• Provide project management oversight for schedules, budgets, and timelines on complex projects.
• Maintain and nurture client relationships and drive value delivery.
• Support the sales team in proposing data engineering solutions.
• Create service offerings and solutions tailored to the NZ market.
• Lead and mentor the data engineering team to elevate capabilities.

We are now hiring a Manager - Data Engineering, a leadership role reporting to the Director of the organization and leading a team of 12 to 15 Data Engineers and 1 Cloud Engineer. Salary range - $180,000 - $200,000 based on experience and background (flexible for the right fit, let's talk)

Role:

• The role is 25% hands-on Billable Consulting (Lead big, complex projects): 25% presales (dealing with RFP's wherever necessary) : 50% team management (dealing with escalations, regular review, issues, admin & timesheets, approving leaves and other people issues, career development initiatives)
• Leading the development of Data Engineering Solutions
• Wherever applicable, provide project management and administration on complex projects ensuring project oversight of project schedules, budgets and timelines.
• Maintaining and nurturing excellent ongoing client relationships.
• Involved in continued development of internal data engineering team's capability
• Documentation of industry best practice for Data Engineering & Analytics solutions.
• Assist the sales team in selling data engineering solutions to customers.
• Create Service Offerings and Solutions based on NZ market.

• Onsite role : 5days a week (being a leader)

You're likely the one if you:

• Experience and a solid background in Data Engineering & Analytics, Data Warehousing, Data Construct, Multi-Dimensional Data Modelling. (Important)
• Experience with most of the following skillsets : SQL, GCP, AWS, Azure, SAP, Python, Snowflakes, Scala, SAP, CICD, JIRA, Github ; DBT (Important)
• Experience with at least 2 within Azure, AWS & GCP. (mandatory) ; GCP, AWS & DBT preferred as there is lot of work coming in for these skills.
• Presentation/Data visualization : Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik, Google Data Studio (Important)
• Direct Team management /Leadership experience (mandatory)
• Should be from a Consulting background (mandatory).
• Lead big / complex projects. (Important)
• Have a stable work history, can't be a job hopper.
• Good communications (all forms) given the role is client facing.
• Someone who is passionate about Data & Analytics and gets excited by new & interesting projects in Data, Analytics & AI.
