Job summary

Aotea Electric Southern Ltd is seeking a Solar Installer to join our Dunedin team. The role is permanent, full-time and based in Dunedin, with a minimum of 40 hours per week on residential and commercial solar projects throughout Dunedin and surrounding areas.

You will be part of a skilled team, installing solar photovoltaic systems and equipment, working on existing and new-build projects, outdoors, at heights, and with electrical workers as required.

Qualifications

  • Proven practical or mechanical aptitude for solar installation or related trades.
  • Ability to read and follow installation plans and specs.
  • Willingness to work outdoors, at heights, and in varying conditions.
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to NZ standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install solar panels, mounting frames, and related equipment on residential and commercial properties.
  • Prepare installation areas per plans; assemble mounting and support systems.
  • Assist with inverter, battery, and other system components installation.
  • Read project instructions and maintain quality, weatherproofing and workmanship.
  • Ensure courteous service at customer premises and adhere to health & safety procedures.

Aotea Electric Southern Ltd is looking for a Solar Installer to join our established Dunedin team.

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Dunedin, working on residential and commercial solar projects throughout Dunedin and the surrounding area. The position guarantees a minimum of 40 hours of work per week.

About the Role

As a Solar Installer, you will work as part of a skilled team installing solar photovoltaic systems and associated equipment across residential and commercial projects.

The role involves working on both existing properties and new-build projects and requires someone who is comfortable working outdoors, at heights and in a hands-on installation environment.

You will work alongside appropriately registered and licensed electrical workers where prescribed electrical work is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and secure solar panels, mounting frames, racking systems and associated equipment on residential and commercial properties.
  • Prepare roof and ground-mounted solar installation areas in accordance with installation plans
  • Assemble and install solar mounting and support systems.
  • Assist with the positioning and installation of inverters, batteries and other solar system equipment as appropriate
  • Assist with the preparation of cable routes and other installation work
  • Work on both new-build and existing residential and commercial properties.
  • Read and follow installation plans, manufacturer specifications and project instructions.
  • Check installations for quality, alignment, weatherproofing and workmanship.
  • Identify installation issues and work with the wider project team to resolve practical problems.
  • Provide courteous and professional service when working at customer premises.
  • Follow all company Health & Safety procedures, working-at-heights requirements and applicable New Zealand standards and regulations.

  • The ability to follow plans, specifications and installation instructions.
  • A practical approach to problem solving and the ability to work proactively.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • The physical ability and willingness to work safely at heights and outdoors in varying conditions.
  • A strong commitment to workplace Health & Safety.
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach when working at customer sites.
  • A full New Zealand driver licence, or the ability to obtain an equivalent licence that permits you to legally drive in New Zealand.
  • Previous solar, electrical, roofing or construction experience would be an advantage but is not mandatory.
