Tapi in New Zealand is hiring a Software Engineer - Scale-up to help build the core platform that connects property managers, tradies and landlords. You will ship real product, think about people using it, and work without a detailed spec.

We’re remote-first with work-from-home flexibility across Australia and New Zealand, small team ownership, and a MacBook Pro provided. You’ll join a high-performance team and help evolve our AI-enabled maintenance platform.

About Tapi

Property maintenance is a coordination problem. Four parties - tenant, tradie, property manager, landlord - with different information, different incentives, and real consequences when it breaks down. Tapi is the operating system that connects them.

Property managers across Australia, NZ and the UK use Tapi to manage maintenance for over 550k properties. Eight years of maintenance data and 28 million human decisions sit under everything we build.

Software that helps someone coordinate maintenance is useful. Software that does the coordinating is a different business. That's what we're building now. The code has to price, schedule, track and settle real jobs, with real tradies and real money, and be right.

We believe AI is transforming the way software is built. This is your opportunity to guide that transformation to create ambitious, higher quality software, not more AI demo-ware.

We are remote-first and flexible: work from home anywhere in Australia or New Zealand. We're established enough to be stable but small enough to stay nimble and invent better ways of doing things. We use multiple technologies; you will be a polyglot and curious, so the specific technology is less important.

You can hardly swing a cat without hitting an "AI-enabled maintenance" startup. Most are starting cold. We're not. 550k properties already send their maintenance through Tapi, we already work with the tradies who do the fixing, and every job a property manager handles teaches our systems something. Demand, supply and data on day one.

What you'll do

• Build the core products and own features end to end: job flows, lots of states, lots of edge cases.
• Release daily, watch what real jobs do to your assumptions, and fix it.
• Set the patterns a bigger team will inherit: tooling, architecture, how we work.

Who we're looking for

We don't hire on languages, frameworks or years of experience. We care that you've shipped real product, thought hard about the people using it, and can work without a detailed spec for everything. We strive to match you to work that optimises the intersection of skills, interests, and business/customer impact.

We're small and working hard to build a high-performance team. As a senior member of that team we expect you to wear multiple hats - hands on coding, coaching others, understanding customer needs and delivering value on schedule.

We build with AI agents in the loop, every day. We expect you to arrive already working that way: directing the tools, reviewing hard, shipping more than you could alone, and already experimenting with how we could take this to a meta level.
