3-Month Paid Internship | Christchurch Office | Potential 6-Month Graduate Pathway

At OssAbility, we are experts in Guided Surgery. Our mission is to make advanced veterinary procedures more accurate, repeatable, and accessible to general practice vets. We combine engineering and clinical expertise to empower veterinarians and improve the lives of animals.
The Role:
Machine Learning and Software Engineering Internship. We are looking for a self-directed, work-ready builder who can take an engineering problem, leverage LLMs (Claude/Gemini) to accelerate execution, rapidly prototype, and build actual products.
- 3-month, full-time paid position at our Christchurch office from November 2026 to February 2027.
- Flexible timing and potential to transition to a 6-Month Graduate R&D position if you're graduating with a Masters or PhD.
What you'll do:
- Model Training & Evaluation: Train and refine models (PyTorch) for object detection and feature localisation.
- Scientific Computing: Write scientific Python (NumPy, OpenCV) to process data.
- Software Integration: Integrate models and algorithms into our existing software platform.
- AI-Assisted Development: Leveraging LLMs (such as Claude and Gemini) to accelerate your coding, debugging, and prototyping.
Strict Eligibility:
- Academic Qualification:You must have studied or be studying aBachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related STEM discipline.
- NZ Study Requirement:Your qualifying degree must be from a New Zealand tertiary education institution. Overseas study is strictly ineligible.
- Academic Timing:If your study is completed, the closing date of your final semester must be less than 12 months ago.
- Work Rights:You must possess the appropriate, lawful immigration status to work full-time in New Zealand.
- Communication:Exceptional verbal and written English skills are required. You must be able to confidently understand and explain complex technical concepts.

- Strong Python programmer.
- Familiar with basic computer vision or deep learning frameworks.
- A proactive problem-solver who is comfortable researching, debugging, and finding solutions independently.
