Job summary

Kami Limited in Auckland is seeking an experienced software engineer to help scale our digital classroom platform. You’ll contribute across backend and frontend, collaborating with product, design and other engineers to turn user feedback into reliable features.

You’ll work in a hybrid setup with in-office Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and work-from-home Tuesdays and Thursdays, helping keep our customers—teachers and students—at the center of everything we build.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in a software engineering role.
• Experience working with web technologies and cloud infrastructure.
• Familiarity with scalable backend systems and API development.
• Comfortable with agile workflows and collaborative development.
• Experience debugging complex systems and writing clean, maintainable code.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and maintain high-quality features.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy new features that improve user experience and support Kami’s product goals.
• Maintain and enhance existing functionality to ensure performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Work closely with product, design, and other engineering team members to translate ideas and user feedback into well-structured technical solutions.
• Build strong relationships across the company to support seamless development workflows.
• Contribute to backend and frontend code bases.
• Maintain and improve our frontend and backend systems, ensuring stability and security.
• Investigate bugs and implement reliable fixes. Ensure that issues are addressed promptly and solutions are delivered in a way that improves long-term code health.
• Support product evolution through user feedback.
• Incorporate user insights and feedback to inform the development of new features and enhancements.
• Deliver and execute with an intermediate level of autonomy and decision making.
• Operate and execute tasks independently on most tasks, requiring some guidance from more senior engineers.
• Collaborate proactively alongside other software engineers to contribute constructive input and a positive impact.
• Confidently communicate status updates and flags risks and issues to the attention of the wider team, seeking help and expertise from senior engineers where appropriate

The Opportunity

As an engineer for this forward-thinking scaleup, you will not be locked in the backroom implementing specs sheets—you’ll be talking to the customers/teachers who already love their product and figuring out how to make it work even better for them. This position will suit an Engineer with a good product sense who is comfortable working relatively autonomously but who can also collaborate well both internally and externally.

This opportunity is based in our fully renovated Auckland office. We have a hybrid arrangement of Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in office. Tuesdays and Thursdays are work from home.
